In the UK, Cyber Security and Cyber Awareness are as strong as they have ever been. The unfortunate irony, though, is that Cyber Attacks are still a real threat. The UK Government have just released their 2025 Cyber Security Breaches Survey, here’s what we know:
The Cyber Security Breaches Survey
This survey found that 4/10 businesses (43%) in the last year have reported to have “experienced” a cyber attack. This equates to approximately 612,000 UK businesses.
A large portion of this statistic was classified as both Micro and SME businesses. This is highly likely due to these types of businesses not having the same level of cybersecurity in their networks or employee training. However, that doesn’t mean larger companies aren’t at risk too, as we’ve discussed in previous blogs.
Naturally, Phishing still remains the most notorious cause of data breaches in UK businesses. Since most, if not all, successful phishing attacks rely on deceiving/intimidating employees, then we can safely say that Cyber Security training and anti-phishing software should not be overlooked.
Silver Lining
On a more positive note, the survey did show that the above findings are an overall improvement compared to last year’s survey. Specifically, businesses are gradually becoming more aware of Cyber Security via assessments, qualifications and training.
This is a sign that the UK is taking a step in the right direction to safeguard our businesses from malicious threats, and also the people who rely on those businesses for their services/products. We recommend every business to incorporate Cyber Secure training into their hard-wired processes- it’s a small cost, and can prevent much larger costs later down the line, in reputation as well as money. We’ve made several blogs on practices, preventive software, and tips that you can use to become more Cyber aware today. If you’d like to see them, choose the “Cyber Security” category on our blogs page. Stay safe!
