In May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was put in place, this is the toughest privacy and security law in the world. Whilst this is a European regulation and no longer applies to the UK, you do need to comply with UK data protection law. The GDPR has been incorporated into UK data protection law as the UK GDPR which sits alongside the Data Protection Act 2018 – so in summary there is little change to the core data protection, principles, rights and obligations put in place in 2018.
As the Cyber landscape evolves Governments and people now realise more than ever that anyone who holds data has a big responsibility on how that data is stored, processed, and protected.
The governing body in charge of enforcing Data protection is the ICO www.ico.org.uk – they are looking for organisations to demonstrate that they are fully aware of their obligations under the law and are taking appropriate measures concerning data protection.
Solutions 4 IT can help with the technical and organisational measures in order to ensure you are meeting your legal obligations.
Cyber Security and Data protection go hand in hand, they are inextricably linked. Privacy depends on security. No obligation to provide privacy can be meaningful if the data to be protected is accessed or stolen by unauthorised third parties.
