Did you know that come 14th January 2020, Microsoft will be beginning the Windows 7 end of life phase?
The decade old operating system will cease all support come January, meaning Microsoft will no longer be applying security updates to Windows 7 on laptops or desktops, and there is unlikely to be a support team to help should you have encounter problems in the future.
Although Windows 7 support will be coming to an end, it doesn’t mean that the operating system will completely stop working. But this doesn’t mean that you should carry on using it.
Microsoft will secure Windows 7 to the best of their ability before the end of life is put into place. However new viruses, malware, ransomware & other detrimental programmes will be developed over time, and without the support from Microsoft to release security patches you can be left open to security breaches and the possibility of hackers infecting your tech. Security breaches aren’t the only problem though. Potential risks include:
NOTE: Microsoft has been known to block older machines from using Windows 7 support without any pre-warning, so those still using this operating system should be wary and make preparations for an alternative as soon as possible.
To ensure that your important information is protected, you should try and make sure you have your computer or laptop updated to Windows 10 well before January 2020.
