Hewlett Packard (HP), is a very well-known name to pretty much everyone. What might surprise you though, is that they have moved offices to Bristol, after being located in the Filton region for over four decades. In this blog, we’ll go over what this could mean for Bristol as a city and the new office in question.
The new site, located at Lake View in Stoke Gifford, will house over 200 staff members working across areas like storage, supercomputing, hybrid cloud, and cyber security.
HP also used this previous location as a storage drive assembly facility before growing into a hub for research and development.
The move to Lake View marks a big milestone for the company, as it brings several key teams—HPE Storage, Hybrid Cloud, Hewlett Packard Labs, and Cray Supercomputing—under one roof for the first time. Until now, these teams operated from different sites. Cray, known for building some of the world’s largest supercomputers, was acquired by HPE in 2019 and has been a major player in Bristol’s tech scene, contributing to supercomputers like Frontier (the fastest in the world) and Isambard-AI at the University of Bristol.
Not only will this centralise HP’s teams into one hub of more efficient collaboration, but it also opens up employment opportunities to many more within Bristol, undoubtably contributing towards the city’s economy.
Not to mention the new office is designed with flexibility and wellness in mind. The lucky employees there have a range of working environments including labs, collaboration spaces, and focus areas. Employees can also enjoy an on-site gym and squash court, and the walls are decorated with bespoke artwork by local graffiti artists that celebrate Bristol’s unique heritage. Clearly, there was meticulous care put into the design!
With its new location, HPE is set to continue playing a key role in the South West’s growing tech community. As AI continues to expand and evolve, changes like this are necessary to ensure companies like HP can stay ahead of the curve.
