FAQ:

Can I Transfer phone numbers to Microsoft 365?

It’s easy to transfer your phone numbers from your current service provider to Teams. After you port your phone numbers to Teams, Microsoft will become your service provider and will bill you either direct or via your CSP for those phone numbers.

What types of phones and devices are supported?

Microsoft partners with Yealink, Polycom, Creston, Audiocodes and Lenovo to develop and certify a vast portfolio of desk phones, conference phones, meeting room systems and headsets that deliver high-quality and reliable calling experiences.

I answer calls for another person. Will I be able to do this with Teams Calling plans?

Yes, as long as your in the same tenant you can delegate your phone number to be answered by another person or for another person to make calls on your behalf. However, each person involved needs to be on Teams Calling.

Can I really use Teams Calling from anywhere?

Yes, anywhere you have a Teams device with an internet connection.

If I use Teams calling on my mobile, do I have to give out my mobile number?

No, Teams calling uses a separate number (your DiD) given to you when teams calling was setup for you, this will ring on any of your teams devices, including your mobile or tablet assuming Teams is installed as an app.

How do I prevent calls outside of working hours?

By using Presence status, you can set yourself to “Do not Disturb” which will send calls to Voicemail. Alternatively you can set “Quiet Times” to automatically stop notifying you of calls outside of your working hours.

The second option would be to use Microsoft Teams Phone Standard this gives you the licence to enable the features for calling regular phones but does not tie you to the Microsoft Teams Calling plan cost or minutes.

This enables 3rd party direct routing or operator connect where you can use a direct routing specialist such as ourselves to provide your minutes and did (Phone number). The cost for this at the time of writing the article is:

Teams Phone Standard – £6.60 per user/per month

Solutions Direct Routing Calling Plan – £7 per user/per month

* Please note prices are exclusive of VAT

What’s included in the Solutions Direct routing Calling Plan Cost:

Included in Solutions Direct routing and Operator Connect Calling Plan Cost is 2000 minutes per month to UK 01, 02, 03 numbers and 2000 minutes per month to UK mobiles (O2, Vodafone, EE, Three and Gamma Mobile). International numbers can be dialled if your security settings allow this – however these calls and premium rate numbers will be charged at a per minute rate.

As part of this cost you also get our SIP Trunk call manager which gives advanced calling, advanced anti-fraud and reporting features on top of what is already offered within the Microsoft 365 platform.

Included minutes are pooled at the tenant level and every user gets their own unique did (phone number) as part of the price.

What’s not included in the Solutions Direct routing Calling Plan Cost:

Your base license/subscription to Microsoft 365 is not included in the price so to use these products you must already have a Microsoft 365 Business Subscription. The price also doesn’t include any additional minutes, Additional minutes will be charged per minute.

Advantages of Direct routing and Operator Connect ?

You get 25% more minutes included, which are pooled at tenant level so minutes not used by less regular phone users can be utilised by your heavier phone users. The audio quality is better and you don’t have to worry about having to top up with communication credits part way through a month if you go over your bundle.

You are simply billed for any additions like a traditional service at the end of the month complete with full Call Detail Reporting.

What is the difference between Direct Routing and Operator Connect ?

Direct routing gives more flexibility and control, ideal for scenarios where Existing PSTN Infrastructure (Session Border Controllers or voice trunks) need to be used as part of the Solution – this tends to be in larger environments. However, this flexibility increases complexity.

Operator Connect doesn’t offer this co-existence but in turn allows for easier administration directly within the Teams Admin Centre and removes the dependency on PowerShell – Allowing for a simpler experience. Operator Connect also Guarantees Quality of Service through direct interconnects into the Microsoft Azure Peering Service (MAPS).

When comparing like for like business scenarios direct routing and operator connect offers an enhanced feature set and cost savings when compared to Microsoft calling plan pricing uk.
